Norah smiled as her fingers glided gracefully over the keys of the piano. She loved working here, the restaurant was classy, elegant, and paid her to do something she loved, play the piano. Despite the fact that when she was back home, piano wasn't for women, she'd fallen in love with it early on in her life and had insisted on teaching herself. Now, she was finally able to use this skill for more than simple pleasure. To be able to make money from it was like a dream. It may not have been as much as most would like, but for now, she was content. Perhaps once day she'd open her own place.
The music was soft, sweet, a loving melody that drifted through the restaurant and settled in the air. Despite the fact that most people didn't really listen, she didn't mind. Whether her playing was background music or something people actually came to hear was something that came second to her. It had been years since she'd been able to play like this, and it was freeing, liberating. Music was how she'd always expressed herself, the emotions that were harder to express outwardly and lately? She had a lot of emotions that had been shoved deep down.
She played and played until her break came. She set up a little sign to let patrons know she'd be back and as she stood, she peeked into the glass bowl on top of the grand piano to see a decent amount of tips placed inside. With a smile, she made her way passed the candlelit tables towards the back of the restaurant where there was a bar. Getting herself a sparkling water, she slid up onto a barstool and took a small sip. She loved this place, the atmosphere, the food, everything was so soothing and relaxing. She'd be perfectly content here until the end of the night.

Norah had needed a day out, a day for fun. She'd been through a lot the passed few years, and now that she was out of the hospital and able to live her life once more, she wanted to get out there and try to feel normal once more. Perhaps an event like this was a bit big for her first outing since escaping the terrible dungeon she'd been locked in, but it sounded just so fun that she couldn't resist! She'd told her husband, explained that she was going and that once the kids were back from school she thought it would be a good idea for them to come along as well. For now, she was on her own however.
The place was bustling and her eyes could hardly rest on one thing for longer than a minute or two. There was just so much to see and she wanted to take in as much as she could while she was out for the day. She wasn't sure how much she could take before she needed a break, but this was a good experience and she didn't want to miss it. So, she'd dressed in a simple gown, nothing too fancy, but somewhat fitting for the event. It would seem odd for her to arrive in pants during a renaissance festival.
The day was going well. She enjoyed some food, wandered through the markets to look at everything they had on sale, and to see all the stands and costumes from those working there. Everything seemed to be going without a hitch until she suddenly heard her name being called. "Norah! Mrs. Norah Abagnale! Make your way to the jousting event!" Curious. For a moment she thought that it must have been coincidence, there must have been another by her name. Still, she wandered over, her eyes lit with curiosity as she peered at the jousting area. One of the worker saw her and hurried over, asking if she was Norah and she could only reply with a slow, hesitant nod.
"I'm Norah, yes, but-" She began before the person was ushering her along, spouting something about them being late and them running out of time to get her changed into something more appropriate. All this happened while he ushered her along to an area just behind the jousting ring to get her ready.

She couldn't remember how long she had been walking, how far. It took ages of wandering around before she found a place that looked familiar to her. Finally, she could feel that she was going to make it home, after years of yearning for nothing more. She was hungry, parched, and she knew that she was weak and malnourished by the way that her legs could barely support her. Still, she pushed on, determined to return to her family who surely thought she was dead by now. She could only imagine how they had reacted upon hearing of her disappearance. A part of her wondered if they still thought of her, but she would quickly dismiss the thought as being silly.
Finally she could see it, the familiar home she had shared with Caleb and their kids. She hoped that he hadn't decided to move during the time that she had been gone, otherwise this trip was certainly going to take her much longer. Perhaps she should have gone to the cops first, but her mind was focused on one thing... The cops could wait. Surely by now they would have stopped searching for her anyways.
Making her way up to the door, she paused, wondering if she should just try and let herself in or knock. Surely no matter which way it went, it would come as a shock to whoever saw her first, but perhaps walking into the home when they weren't expecting it would be more jarring. They surely were long passed hoping she would stroll in, and hearing the door open would likely set off alarm bells rather than glimmers of hope and expectation.
So, with a deep breath, she rose a shaky hand and knocked lightly on the door a few times. While she waited, it felt like she was holding her breath. Her head felt dizzy with emotion and it was taking so much of her willpower not to just burst through the door and find her family. But no, she would wait with hands nervously twisting in front of her and her eyes fixed on the door.

Die, die we all pass away

A flutter of her heart, a charming smile, and Emily was convinced that she was in love. He was handsome, charming, charismatic and wasn't someone her parents were trying to marry her off to, in fact... They didn't like him at all, which in her mind was quite appealing in itself. He charmed her with words and smiles, with the way he would defend her from her parents and offer her a playful wink after they backed down. He was everything she could have dreamed of and more. It was why she was more than eager to accept his plan to elope and run away together, before she could be married off to some stuffy old man.
She'd had no qualms about stealing her mother's wedding dress along with a decent collection of the family jewels, enough to set them up with a home and still have a large portion left over. The night air was cold against her skin, but it wasn't going to deter her from her one true love. Her feet carried her quickly across cobblestone roads until she managed to get to the forests on the outskirts of town when they had planned to meet. Behind her, the skirts of her wedding dress trailed and shifted in the wind, her heels clicking against the stone beneath her.
Once she reached the old oak tree, she hugged her arms around herself to try and keep warm while her eyes scanned the area around her to try and find him. She heard a rustle of someone walking through the long grass behind her and she could feel her heart lift and soar. Just as she went to turn to face her betrothed, everything went black.

Now when she opened her eyes she was dead as dust.

The land of the dead was a dreary place, and somewhere that left her with despair and the longing for life. She wanted to feel the cold on her skin from a breeze, the warmth of a touch, hug a loved one and hear their heartbeat... But none of that could be found her. It wasn't until she met Bonejangles and he took her under his wing in a way, that she began to feel more at home. She still longed for the land of the living for quite some time, but all things faded, as did her desire to be alive once more.
She made her way through the dead, making friends and various connections. Most of the time she was simply trying to fill time, find ways to bring joy back to her life. She just longed for love once again, to finally become the bride that she was so ready to be. Every night she would go to Elder Goodnick and he would help her with a rather peculiar request. To allow her to be in between the two lands, to have her hand ready for a ring, to listen for the vows she'd never gotten. She was never sure if anything would come of it, surely it wouldn't... But she held hope in her heart, that one day her true love would have heard her story and come searching for her, whether they be living, or dead.

When out of the blue comes this groovy young man.

Victor came, and boy was she excited. She was sure that if she still had a heart it would be going a mile a minute. She was overjoyed to finally have a husband, to have someone who spoke his vows to her, and did so with such confidence and gusto! He was a handsome man, if not a bit awkward, but that was charming in it's own way. Poor thing though, it seemed she had scared him out of his wits when she'd presented herself to her new husband.
She had to chase after him until she finally caught him at the old stone bridge. He still looked frightened, but she hoped that he would calm once she got him home and settled in. Surely she couldn't expect him to not be at least a wee bit shocked. Once they reached the land of the dead, they were greeted by all of those close to her. They were kind, rolling out the welcome wagon for the newlyweds, and Emily smiled and danced along as her dear friend Bonejangles sang the song of her story for her dear husband. It wasn't the best of stories, but perhaps it would help him adjust in some way.
Unfortunately, the celebration and revelry couldn't last too long. A great darkness had fallen on both the land of the dead as well as the living. It was dangerous, and there was a clamoring of both corpses and living beings towards a portal that was meant to bring them to safety. During the chaos, she had lost Victor and upon crossing through, she found herself very alone... But very alive.

And that's the story of our corpse bride.

Alive. She could feel the breeze, see the vibrant colors of grass and skies. Her skin was warm, the decay on her body gone. This was it, a fresh start... A second chance. She spent quite some time searching for Victor, but after months of searching, she found herself believing he had never made it across the portal at all. She had to stand tall, buck up, and make a life for herself. Her previous life had been thrown away be naivety and whims, and she wasn't going to let the same thing happen to her again.
The first thing she did was pick a new name for herself and settle into Haven, a lovely little place to call her own. A job was needed, and she couldn't quite come up with anything but music. Piano had always been a love of hers, it was a way she expressed her feelings when words couldn't quite do them justice. Sure she was handy at other things such as sewing and baking, but music was her true passion.
After much searching, she had landed herself a job at a fancy piano bar, a restaurant if you will. The people were lovely, the music was a good way to take her mind off of the troubles of this new world. When she played, she was in her own world, and occasionally she would sing along with the music, letting the song fill the air and settle on the ears of all the patrons. She would also say, her music was a large stepping stone to her next step in life... Another, proper marriage.
Caleb had saved her life, no thanks to her daydreaming and a man who seemed to be in quite the rush to get to where he was going. He was a kind man, and she had offered him a card with the bar's information, insisting that he come and see her when he found the time. She wanted to pay him back somehow, but she couldn't have predicted that it would be the start of a real relationship. Finally she was married to a man who didn't want to kill her, and wasn't running away. She felt like she had finally found her place, and that place was secured even more with the arrivals of their two children. Everything seemed perfect.

For it seems that I still have a tear to shed.

She couldn't remember what day it was, how long she'd been here. Some time ago she had been taken, abducted from the streets during her walk home and kept in some strange place where cold shackles held her to the wall. She'd been poked and prodded, used as some kind of test subject by a man named Lucius.. or Lucian, she wasn't sure. She was kept alive, but barely, and she'd long lost track of the amount of time she had been captive here.
Her thoughts often went to Caleb and her children, her heart aching to be back home with them. Most nights she cried herself to sleep until she ran out of energy and tears. The food was scarce, something to be desired, but it kept her breathing and that's all she needed... To be breathing so that one day she could escape and return to those she had left behind.
It was a few years that had passed before her time finally came. A new man began to enter her cell to feed her, one she'd never seen before. Previously she had begged and pleaded with the others to help her escape, but none of them had bent to her pleas. She had to keep trying though, so with what little strength she had, she begged and pleaded. "Please... I have children I need to get back to my children." She'd said, her voice frail and quiet. To her surprise, he agreed, but insisted that they had to wait. It wasn't safe yet, it wouldn't work, there was no safe way out today without the risk of running into others.
So, she waited until the day where he finally came to escort her out of this cold dungeon. When they reached the surface, she had thanked him over and over, even giving him a kiss on the cheek before she had left, leaving the place that had caused her so much heartache and despair behind her. Finally, she could go back to her family, go back to her life and make the most of what she had.

character basics

NAME:
I have Emmeline as a middle name to kind of go with 'Emily', but used the new first and last due to them being super nice and pretty and just 'her', along with them being suggested by her wanted ad.

PLAYBY:
I think Emelia holds a certain grace and bubbly demeanor that Emily shows in the movie, and simply felt like she would be a nice fit.

BIRTHDAY:
October 23rd.

I really wanted to play off of her piano skills, as she had played it with so much emotion and skill in the film. I thought it would be a nice idea to have her do something with that in the real world.

She's very much the same. She can be a bit naive and a dreamer, but she's bold and takes risks. She's determined, and doesn't like to give up when she has her mind set on something. She's kind, caring, goofy at times, and thoughtful and always does her best to make other's happy. However, she can get rather carried away and often times doesn't notice if her attention makes people uncomfortable, and she really doesn't have much regard for personal space at times. With everything she's gone through in the real world, she's learning to be more independent and has likely learned to be much more cautious with her life. She believes she has a second chance, and doesn't want to waste it.

She will come to discover now that she's free, that she carries some ptsd due to her abduction and the way she was treated.
I kept everything from the movie until the canon cutoff, and built a bit more detail into her 'before death' life just to help me feel out the character a bit more. The parts in the real world were partially determined by the wanted ad she is claiming, but was also used in a way to help her build character.

Shortly after returning to the land of the dead with Victor.
