BECCA

Becca is yet another member that has returned to us, and was sorely missed in her absence. As much a part of the family as though she'd been here from the very beginning. She's always welcoming, always kind and supportive, and most importantly ready to offer all the magical feels-breaking plots you could ever ask for. So don't forget to show her your love next time you see her!

It was a sunny day when Leo went to the beach. He often preferred to be in the sea itself, and with a fishtail, rather than on land with these legs. It often took him a few days to get more steady on them, but if anyone asked, he just says he still has his sea legs. So most people then would think that he worked off in one of the boats. Which was not far from the truth, he did work off-shore in a sense. Just not in the way they expected. Leo had been around the area for a few days now, and was much more steady.

He had gravitated towards the beach, the sea was always calling to him no matter which side of the portal he was on. It was home, and the salt air was comforting to him when he was so unsure of himself. He was a hard man to approach, he did not give off the most welcoming demeanour. He could not help that though, he had held such distaste for humans for so long, he really did not want anything to do with them even when he was one of them. So if people ignored him, he did not mind that, for he would ignore them.

The sand was between his toes, the water flowed over them and drew back, pulling his heart out with it. He wished he could just dive right in and disappear. But he had his limits in this world and that frustrated him more than anything else. Yet he had to come here if he had any hope of finding his daughters. Haven Hill tried their best, but after years of disappointment he had started taking to searching on his own. Taking suggestions of places to look out for them, and the beach was one of those places. It made sense to him, if he was drawn to the sea, surely his family was also.

Leo looked out upon the waves, the wind whistled past him and ruffled his hair. It was not the waves that caught his eye though, but the figures seeming to ride them. That fascinated him and piqued his curiosity. He watched for a moment as the waves pushed those standing on them back onto the shore. As he watched them come closer a young woman in particular seemed familiar to him and he found he couldn’t take his eyes off her. Before he knew what he was doing, he had made his way closer to them, and as they slid upon the sand he gave a gruff “Ahem. That was impressive out there.” He said to the blonde woman as she picked up her board.

This was home. The way the water lapped against her ankles as she stood against the shoreline… There was absolutely nothing better to the blonde, not now. The wind blew her wet hair against her cheeks, but she didn’t care, not when the rest of her was just as soaked, and it was bound to be soaked again in just a few moments. The water was a near perfect temperature for this time of the year, although Andrea still had her wetsuit on, zipped all the way up. Everything about this day was just going her way, from the waves to the simplest details of the water. From the way it moved to the way it smelled, it was all perfect. Each and every inch of it was something that Andi truly loved and adored, as odd as it probably sounded to many others.

Of course, the water had been her home for so long, keeping her safe and comfortable when nothing else could. The currents had rocked her to sleep on plenty of nights, and on others they had carried her on adventures with her sisters. What more could she have wanted? The ocean was home, and she was incredibly happy to see it was in this world as well. Even if she had to escape her own home and live somewhere different… At least she still had the water. No matter the temperature, the way it moved against her skin was good enough of a memory for her. And maybe, one day, she would find her way home? For now, though, she would keep on swimming, keep on surfing. That's what she loved more than anything now. Sooner or later she’d have to teach her sisters about it, too- they would be just as good, she was sure of it.

Sometimes she wished to find others, but Andi knew she was lucky enough to have Alana and Lulu. Two out of a bunch wasn’t too bad, really? It was better than being alone, better than suffering. And she had sisters, and the water, and things were wonderful. The sun against her skin was nice, even with the temperature being a bit less than perfect. She had to swim no matter what the water was like as a kid, and this was no different. Picking up her board, Andi ran into the water, paddling out to the next big wave. It would be a good one- she could hear it calling to her. Standing up slowly, she rode the wave up and down and around until it came to a stop and another one formed. She rode wave after wave until falling down and paddling back to shore- she had to take a breather. It wasn’t good to push herself too hard, not in the offseason. ”Thanks.” she looked up at the man as she emerged from the water, ”You surf?” surely there was a reason he was speaking to her- he didn’t give the vibe that he was creepy in any way. Just curious.

Finding Arista again had spurred hime on. Given him a new-found hope that he could find the rest of his family soon enough. He just had to have some patience. Especially in this world with the different faces and lack of mertails. It frustrated him that he could not recognise his family even in a different form; that he could not recognise even himself when he catches himself in a reflective surface. Why must the portal change so much about a person, make it difficult for those with close ties to find one another. Still, he was now filled with expectancy to find the others and he was putting this drive to good use. He hoped he was, and if they were his daughters, they’d surely be drawn, as he was, to the ocean and it’s bounty.

Leo didn’t know why he was drawn to the young woman, perhaps it was just because he was interested in what she was doing. Or perhaps it was for some other reason? Either way, he had her attention now and he couldn’t just walk off. That would be rude, and he also didn’t want her thinking he was stupid or crazy. He attempted a smile as she thanked him for the compliment, along with a nod. “Oh no, not really.” He said, a hand moving to nervously rub his chin. He missed having the beard… why the portal got rid of that he’d never know. He pushed the unbidden thought out of his head and returned his attention back to the young woman.

“I can swim though, and dive, love being beneath the waves more than anything.” He said, pushing his hands into his pockets. He always felt uncomfortable talking to humans; he really wasn’t around them often enough to even seem like he was comfortable, and his body language of hands in pockets, a distance between others, dodging them if he feels they are getting too close. He couldn’t help it, his hatred for them has stewed for too long for him to just forget it. To just get over it despite the fact he knew that not all of them were bad.

Andrea had no problem talking to others on the beach, especially on a day like today. There was a small crowd, although certainly nothing like the beaches in the summer, and everyone always chatted with everyone else. Whether it was a fan or just a random person on a walk, well, why not have a little conversation? It gave Andrea time to stretch a bit more in between runs, and allowed her to better meet others around her. Besides, if there was any sort of place she was bound to find a family member, this would be it, right? All of the family was drawn to the water, and it was for a lot more than just enjoying swimming. With water being life itself, well, she couldn’t pull herself away, not for very long. Being able to surf professionally was a lifesaving experience, in the end. It allowed her to keep on searching while still making a life for herself- making a name for herself.

While there were many things Andrea missed about home, like her family and being able to stay underwater for an extended period of time, there were a few things she was fine with. For one, she enjoyed not being in her siblings shadows anymore. Andrea was her own person, with her own life and passions. While she still liked singing, she greatly enjoyed being able to be different. She could dress how she wanted, act how she wanted, and do what she wanted. What was better than that? Other than having a family by her side, of course. With time they would all show up though, right? And everything would just be great. Nice and easy and nothing too stressful to deal with. Everyone would just fall right into their places, just like they always were meant to be.

The smile never left her face as she spoke to the older gentleman. There was something about him that just seemed incredibly kind and welcoming, ”Oh really? It’s fun. Anyways.” she moved back to what he was talking about- Andi could go on for ages about surfing and how much she loved it, but that wasn’t always the best option, now was it? It was just as important to talk to others and learn about them- a skill she had learned many, many years ago.

”I feel the same way.” she spoke honestly, ”The water is like a home to me. That’s why I picked up surfing in the first place. It really brings you closer and lets you swim…” and it let her connect to her long-gone family. ”What brings you to the beach this fine morning?” she asked him. It was a bit of an awkward conversation, but she wouldn’t rush it. What if he had something important to share?
