People were just so stupid in JJ's opinion. Stupid, no way that the wasn’t the right word for it. Gullible was more accurate. They practically were just asking for him to con them and he was happy to oblige. Nowadays, it was much harder for him to get away with cons, especially since he had been in jail for it and had a parole officer that was watching him like a hawk, but that still didn’t stop him from doing it. It was intoxicating and addictive, once he started, it was practically impossible for him to stop and not follow through.
So here he was, his first trip back into the world of the underground, the world where anything went. This one would not be anything too complicated, just a quick money grabbing feat. JJ just planned on leaving an envelope on the dash of some random person's car that claimed that they had several unpaid parking tickets and if they didn’t pay them, you could be arrested. It did have a ring of truth: not paying your parking tickets could actually land you in the slammer for ignoring their orders, so this easily worked and was always successful. San Francisco already had so many rules for parking, which just made his job even easier. They just assumed that they somehow made an error and forgot about a ticket, so they easily forked the money over to him. Obviously not directly to him, that was just so suspicious. He had a P.O. box at one of the many post offices around the city, which he was finally able to afford after working for minimum wage for several months now, which would not seem sketchy at all. This time, he would not let his emotions control him and he was not planning on going back to jail anytime soon.
JJ strolled down the street, his hands hidden in the pocket of his faded hoodie, guarding the envelope that entitled him to just over $300. All he had to do was make a choice, plop down the envelope on the dash, then get out of there before the person returned. Lunch hour had just begun though, so he was sure that he had plenty of time to make his escape. The parking garage that he was planning on going to had plenty of cars and barely any security cameras, so it wouldn’t be too big of an issue to find one to use, right? Once he got to the entrance, he sprinted up the stairs, as for whatever reason he had a weird burst of energy. JJ stopped on the second floor, not really having the energy to go up another or really go too far from here. There was a nice looking car not too far from the stairs, so he looked around to make sure that there was no one there, sauntered up to the car, placed the envelope, and started making his way back to the stairs, blissfully unaware that there was someone watching his every move.
